An Angels life of service

Magree Schaerr found out in January of 2005 that she had stage four secondary lung cancer and only had a few months to live.  She had a sore throat and cough for about a month so she decided to see her family doctor to see what was going on.  They took ex-rays and the nurse came in and told her it looked like she had lung cancer and said, "I guess you know how you are going to die now."  I couldn't believe it, and was upset at the nurse for the way she said it.  Magree went to the Hunstman Cancer Center in Salt Lake City to get a second opinion, and sure enough she had cancer.

Since she was at a stage 4, she decided not to have chemotherapy.  We knew she didn't have much time, so I asked her if she would tell me her history.  I gave her a book that had questions for her to answer about her life.  On February 24th, March 7th and 10th, she tape recorded answers to these questions.  Mom passed away May 31, 2005.  The following blog posts will be about her life.  Many of the words are quotes directly from the tapes.  I will add historical pictures and records to fill in the gaps.

The reason I titled her life as "An Angels Life of Service" is because she always wanted to help people whether it was serving a mission, serving valiantly in her church callings, taking care of Dad who had epilepsy, taking care of her mother, Bessie for 10 years, and Dad;s mother, Hulda, for over 13 years, or just helping out her neighbors.  In my eyes, she must have received extra halos for all those she helped.

If you have any stories, pictures, or thoughts please don't hesitate to add a post.

  1. I don't know if you'll ever see this message, but I've been trying to contact Sister Schaerr's (Magree) family. I just want to let you know your mother is an incredible person. We use to help her every Saturday morning with cleaning the house and helping her do household chores. She taught my siblings and I a very valuable lesson in hardwork and service. She also helped my brother read and thats what inspired him to write songs, music, and poetry. She kept us from getting into trouble when we were younger. She always seemed to know when we have ran out of good because she would bring a big bag of bagels and drop it off at our house. I miss her so much. I stopped by her grave before I got married to let her know and I also took my oldest when he was a baby to meet her and clean off her grave. We left flowers for her.I get emotional every time I pass the Valley View cemetery and her house she use to live in when she was alive. I hope you do still look at this blog because I want you to read this message. Your mother helped me so much and still inspires me today with my own kids. She always use to talk about her kids and her grandkids. I love her so much and always think of her.
